The ‘Beast from The East’ Is Back!

Chrispin Mwangale better known as Big Pin came into our lives with his first single Nimefika Jo which was a collaboration with his very good friend Esir. The two took the hip hop industry by storm with the release of their individual singles “Big Pin” and “Talk To You” for Big Pin while E-sir wowed us with the tracks “Leo” and “Moss Moss.” The rest is history, the two became legends in the game.

Big Pin became such a success that in December 2004 he won the KORA Award for Best Male Artist in East Africa for the song “Natafuta,” which at the time can be equated to a Grammy Award because there were no Award Ceremonies being held recognizing talent on the continent. It is unfortunate that he could not attend the actual ceremony, but the win was endorsement of his talent.

After a five year hiatus, he is back! He has released brand new music including “Ginene” and “Juu” which features songstress Mayonde. Staying true to his unique sound but giving it a fresh kick to ensure it keeps up with the times we are truly happy to have this legend back on the scene!

Mariam caught up with him to learn some lessons from his fountain of knowledge and what to expect from him in the near future.
