Walshy Fire or Leighton Paul Walsh as we are sure his mother calls him, is a Jamaican American DJ, MC and record producer and is better known as one-third of the dancehall reggae influenced group Major Lazer alongside DJ’s Jillionaire and Diplo.
As a solo DJ, he has conquered the clubs of Miami, LA, and New York among others. This has been possible because of mashups from multiple genres including reggae, dancehall, roots reggae, soca, house, bass, moombahton, Latin, Afrobeat, Hip-Hop and old school R&B presented by MC commentary that really engages the listener.
Walshy Fire was in Kenya to perform at an event organized by Kenya Nights and to film a TV show connecting the dots of his personal life as a DJ and that of mother Africa. For anyone who is abreast with the music of Major Lazer knows that Africa holds a special place in their hearts and specifically Walshy Fire because of his Jamaican heritage.
He made time for us during his visit to tell us about his album and what to expect from him in the future.
