Get To Know About Spoken Word with WaLooks

In case you didn’t know, spoken word is a performance art that – you guessed it – is word based. It is an oral art form that focuses on the aesthetics of wordplay such as voice inflection and intonation. It is a broad term that encompasses any kind of poetry recited aloud, including but not limited to poetry readings, poetry slams, jazz poetry, and hip hop and can include comedy routines and prose monologues. What differentiates spoken word from written poetry is that sound is one of the main components, compares to written poetry it has less to do with physical on the page aesthetics and more to do with the aesthetics of sound.

WaLooks is a spoken word artist based in Nairobi who embodies what it truly means to be a spoken word artist. On top of his natural way with words, he finds a way to bring comedy into the mix. And Lord knows we all need a laugh right now.
