When it was announced that the much anticipated 26th edition of Koroga Festival featuring Gwaash, Ethic Entertainment, Them Mushrooms, Jua Cali, Samidoh and Femi Kuti was going to be held at Tatu City in Kiambu County we were a bit worried about the turnout. But the organizers did an amazing job mobilizing transport and truly did themselves in terms of set up. There was that little hiccup on Saturday night with Ethic Entertainment but we have spoken about that extensively.
What we really liked about this particular edition of the event was the fact that the County was represented by Mugithii maestro Samidoh. It was clear to tell that you were really in Kiambu the minute he took the stage. It was also very evident to see why his fans love him so much when he took the stage, because even though we didn’t understand a word of what he was saying you couldn’t help but dance along.
There was really something for everyone. The ma yenx were catered for by Gwassh and Ethic on Saturday night while the older folk got to walk down memory lane with Them Mushrooms, while the Genge fans were on the feet the minute Jua Cali got on stage. Then there was the main event, Femi Kuti himself. His performance reminded everyone what performance is supposed to be, it reminded us what it means to really be a musician working in this day and age.
